I am a former high school dropout and a teen mother of two who rose above rural poverty to attain the rank of Professor of Political Science and Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University. Before taking the job at Vanderbilt in 1999, I was a tenured Associate Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. My calling is to speak truth to power.
