Human beings are mostly a product of environment. And most human environments are created by other humans. The poverty you see in Latin American is the product of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is responsible for the environment these people live in.

I suppose the donkeys look pretty good compared to Catholic priests. At least the donkeys are female. I guess.
