It was probably a glitch - Rather might have blurted out that Obama couldn't sell pencils on the corner during this recession, or even that Obama couldn't score in a whorehouse with a fist full of hundred dollar bills, but to toss a watermelon into the spiel is a great faux pas violation of political correctness.
I believe Rather leans way too far to the left to purposefully slam Obama in an obviously racial manner. I don't get it. Almost everyone eats watermelon, fried chicken, and some form of genuine barbeque, but why does mention of any of it in conjunction with a black person (or racial mixture thereof) constitute instant racism? Instant racism, sounds like some store bought crap destined to be tossed into the microwave for immediate hate mogerer seeking gratification.

What Rather was implying is that the right would use these sort of references. Rather was thinking them, but stating that those sort of references would be used by the right to attack Obama in 2012.
Rather put his foot in his mouth and bit down hard. But no one seams to be looking for the bit marks, because the liberal media will put a bandage on it to protect themselves. |
