Default Mexican police to patrol ny?

can someone check on this?

By Jeffrey Smith

NEW YORK, New York — In a series of events which has caused wide notice and a storm of protests, the government of Mexico, through its consulate in New York in the United Nations, has announced it will begin patrolling the New York City borough of Staten Island to “safeguard” its nationals there.

The actions of Mexico come after a series of incidents the Mexican government terms “bias attacks.”

Ironically, these so-called “hate crimes” have been perpetrated by blacks and Asians, indicative of rising tensions between various ethnic groups in the U.S. The Catholic Examiner and NBC New York both reported the Mexican government’s intention to mount surveillance, patrol and police in and around the Staten Island community of Port Richmond, which in recent years has seen a large influx of Mexican illegal immigrants.

Since the Examiner’s coverage, however, councilor officials, city hall and the local press have begun to carefully de-emphasize any possible role of Mexican law enforcement or military in efforts to secure the neighborhood.

Mexican officials have set up a neighborhood office and a local phone hot line for their nationals to report “bias incidents”—regardless as to whether they are in the United States legally.

New York City police had been monitoring the situation and investigating the reported assaults as local crimes. The actions of the Mexican government have caused Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to order what many observers say is the most concentrated police mobilization since the World Trade Center disaster.

The main street of Port Richmond was swiftly transformed into what the New York Times described as a war zone like atmosphere with over 120 newly assigned officers, high-intensity night lighting, two huge “sky tower” police observation posts, frequent helicopter overflights and 20 police cars to watch the center of the relatively small neighborhood. Several long-term residents described it as a constant hornet’s nest of activity.

Both published reports and residents say that reports of fights between Mexicans and other groups began years ago, in the late 1990s or early 2000s. Many charge the present round of incidents started in 2003 with one loss of life in 2006, which might not even be connected to the present series of events.

Mexican Law Enforcement to patrol in Staten Island

* July 29th, 2010 8:23 am

Jan Brewer may not be the bogeyman the liberals painted her to be.

In an article by the Staten Island Advance, there has been a string of muggings in the New York borough of Staten Island. Anyone who has spent more than 15 minutes in any of the NY Boroughs knows that isn't exactly something new.

But here's a twist to the latest... turns out the muggers in question hurled a few racial epithets as well as some well placed jabs at the intended victims.

Now the Mexican Consulate in NYC is stationing "personnel" in Staten Island.

In an e-mail statement sent from Mexican Consul General of Mexico in New York, Rubén Beltrán to the Staten Island Advance; (Emphasis mine)

"In response to the escalating violence against Mexicans in Port Richmond, Staten Island, the Consulate General of Mexico in New York is posting personnel that will remain in the borough until further notice. This, in order to safeguard their rights and effectively assist and provide information to the Mexican residents of this area."

Mexico condemns Staten Island hate crimes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --- The Consulate of Mexico last night “strongly condemned” the latest assault of a Mexican immigrant in Port Richmond and expressed “profound concern for the recent surge” in attacks on Mexican immigrants on Staten Island.

“We will act decisively in order to protect our citizens and will actively promote that those guilty of these vicious attacks are brought to justice expeditiously. We are working hand-in-hand with local authorities on all levels,” said the Consul General of Mexico in New York, Rubén Beltrán in a statement emailed to an Advance reporter.

“In response to the escalating violence against Mexicans in Port Richmond, Staten Island, the Consulate General of Mexico in New York is posting personnel that will remain in the borough until further notice. This, in order to safeguard their rights and effectively assist and provide information to the Mexican residents of this area,” Beltrán wrote.
ruben.jpgAdvance file photoRuben Beltran, the counsel general of Mexico, condemned the latest spate of alleged Staten Island bias crimes. Back in April, Beltran appeared with Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Borough President James P. Molinaro in the aftermath of several other incidents that occurred at the time.

The Mexican diplomat also called upon local authorities to “conduct a thorough investigation” of the alleged hate-crime cases. He also offered “extensive cooperation and all the necessary support to ensure that justice is served.” Beltran could not be reached for additional comment.

Yesterday, the victim in the most recent attack, a 40-year-old Mexican immigrant whose name is being withheld by the Advance, was back in his Mariners Harbor home, recovering after a group of men swung a scooter at his head, breaking his jaw Friday afternoon.

“They hit him from the back,” said the victim’s brother. “He can’t eat nothing, only liquids, soup.”

The victim — a construction worker who has lived in the U.S. for the past 20 years
— was on his way to a deli after playing soccer at Faber Park when police say he was assaulted by five black men yelling racial epithets.

“They don’t like us because we are Mexican,” the victim’s brother told the Advance yesterday.

As police continued to investigate that possible hate crime in Port Richmond, authorities have closed the book on two earlier robberies initially thought to be bias incidents.

Authorities yesterday said two suspects, Anthony Jones, 21, and Waheeda Sadick, 20, both of Ann Street in Port Richmond, have been convicted on robbery charges for the violent muggings of two Mexican immigrants on April 23 and April 26.

Jones pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in exchange for six years behind bars, while Ms. Sadick pleaded to third-degree robbery in exchange for five years of probation, said William J. Smith, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

Though prosecutors had asked the grand jury to consider hate crime charges in both incidents, jurors voted not to include those charges in the indictment.

“The D.A. has said before in public, these cases are very difficult to prosecute because in addition to proving motive, you have to prove what’s in someone’s heart,” Smith said.

The muggings, both of which took place in the Port Richmond area, were investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force as part of a string of attacks and robberies committed by black youths on Mexican immigrant victims.

In the two attacks from April, Ms. Sadick, who is described as Asian-Pacific, struck up conversations with the two victims, distracting them long enough so Jones, who is black, could rob them, according to authorities.

Both victims recalled Jones and Ms. Sadick shouting anti-Mexican slurs at them, a law enforcement source said.

In the April 23 case, the duo took a wallet while Jones assaulted the victim, according to an indictment against the two.

In the April 26 case, the duo set upon the victim as he walked along Castleton Avenue near Port Richmond Avenue in the early morning hours. Jones wielded a baseball bat, and attacked the man, and the two ran off with a wallet and a cell phone.

Police tracked down Ms. Sadick on May 10, and Jones on May 13. Both were indicted a week later, and both pleaded guilty earlier this month.

“I think people are very grateful that the convictions occurred,” said the Rev. Terry Troia of the non-profit Project Hospitality. “That took two people off the street that committed these crimes.”

So far this year, the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force has investigated more than twice as many incidents as possible bias crimes compared to the same time frame last year. Many of the recent cases have centered around the Port Richmond neighborhood, which is home to a growing Mexican population.

Earlier this month, Fernando Mateo, president of Hispanics Across America, offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions in a half dozen separate bias incidents since this past April

It's BS according to my crap meter.

US city police giving up their turf to corruption laden Mexican police who can't, won't or who are bribed not to solve crimes in Mexico?

And the "article" doesn't say that Mexican police will do any of that, nor does it seem to be anything other than a propaganda piece.

The most that would happen -as far as a Mexican governmental role - is that there will be some professional victimization hacks assigned to make mass allegations of racially motivated incidents, which the far left will probably take seriously on unproven word.

So, what's new?

Nothing at all.

Except a few who believe everything they read getting hot and bothered about it.

Yes, those were my first thoughts exactly. Can anyone really imagine Mexican law enforcement competent to patrol the streets of any US city?

There is no statue or jurisdiction I ever heard of giving police powers to foriegn nationals except maybe, only maybe, a foriegn security detail for a diplomat.

A neighborhood watch group, that's a different story but not even the Angels in NYC were permitted to carry weapons that I know of.

Yes.

While the Mexican military did operate in that capacity I believe it set off a loud howl of "get them the hell off our soil" from our citizens to Congress.

And what did they accomplish besides making a show of presence? I don't know.

I believe the fact that it happened at all had to do with an American governmental attempt to score points for "cooperation" and a Mexican governmental attempt to take advantage of it. Maybe I'm cynical and uniformed, but I don't recall hearing anything about the Mexican military rushing to the rescue for Mexican citizens on Mexican soil after a hurricane wipes out some of their coastal communities.

And for me, that's the rub.

The Mexican government cares nothing about Mexican citizens until they enter the United States. Then they get all foaming at the mouth about "human rights" which Mexico doesn't provide for anyone, and otherwise despised and ridiculed American born descendants of Mexicans magically become part of the Mexican Empire.

The hypocrisy and gaming is astounding, and the fact that any Americans swallow it at all is nothing short of shamefully amazing.
