Gingrich is pandering in an area unfamiliar to him - such as when he addressed a Mexican audience referring to himself in Spanish as the "Speaker of the House of Representatives" using the word "Hablador" in a literal sense - the understood meaning is something like "I'm the big bullshitter..."

It got lots of hearty, derisive laughs from those he was trying to impress.

Cubans and Puerto Ricans and their descendants have different views and agendas, and from what I understand have quite a few issues between them which don't exactly lead to group hugs.

The "Latino" agendas of those of the "Mexican" persuasion and the various "Caribbean" persuasions might not mesh all that well, and there are lots of different thoughts within those "Latino" persuasions.

"Latino" doesn't come in one size fits all, and a politician who doesn't understand that will wind up as either a laughing stock loser or an unwitting tool to an agenda he doesn't have a clue about.

Or, maybe both.
