The Migration Policy Institute's 8th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference going on today in Washington D.C. is being broadcast on C-Span.

The day-long conference, being held at the Georgetown University Law Center, is addressing law and policy analysis of immigration issues. Topics on the agenda include the role of states in immigration policy, the impact on law enforcement agencies and detention reform.

Featured speakers including Mark Shurtleff, Utah Attorney General; Terry Goddard, Former Arizona Attorney General and Former Mayor of Phoenix; Tamar Jacoby, President and CEO of ImmigrationWorks USA; Doris Meissner, Senior Fellow and Director of the US Immigration Policy Program at MPI and former Commissioner of the US Immigration and Naturalization Service; Charlie T. Deane, Chief of Police in Prince William County.

Right now Shurtleff and Goddard are discussing how policies have affected their state populations. Arizona's SB 1070 hurt the state in reputation and commerce, Goddard said. Shurtleff, in Utah, is pointing toward proposals that include giving migrant laborers in the state temporary permission to work.
