Perry's inopportune comment is his Howard Dean Scream moment. He is trying to wiggle out of it and can't. He won't. It did him in.

He forgot for a moment that he is applying for a NATIONAL office not state, not Texas not where there are a lot of illegals and their voting relatives. Perry told parents in Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, and all of the other 49 states that if they are heartless if they object to paying a subsidy for the children of illegals to go to Texas A&M when their own children can't go without paying full price.

It might sell in Texas, but it's a loser nationally.

We have two extremist parties which fight over control of the nation's future, and any candidate which strays too far from his party's position will usually be politically destroyed. The third parties are generally comprised of kooks or otherwise don't have a snowballs chance in hell of successfully fielding a candidate.

Politics is a nasty business, with all the character assassination and backstabbing that goes on and such. The guy who shakes your hand and convincingly assures you of his deep personal concern for you while kissing your baby as well as your ass usually isn't such a nice guy, he can't be and make it in politics.

I believe that to get more than lip service towards meaningfully enforcing immigration law means cleaning out the rat's nests which decide unwritten party policy - both of them.

It has to be negative experience for employers to hire illegals and public employees have to be punished for doling out public services to the illegally present, which mean that politicians have to feel some sort of pain for supporting employers and governmental hacks who do so. That means cleaning out the back room rats who give blessings and marching orders to politicians.

Everyone is focused on the national picture, but in reality it begins with city hall and the county seat, the most unobserved political units in America. Get the small ones, and the big ones fall with them. America was built on the township, and that's how America will be reclaimed by its citizens.

I am remembering when Perry gathered about 30,000 followers and prayed for rain, he got more fires.

Default Perry is sinking:

I, too, cringe when I hear Perry's bad grammar. I certainly don't mind a Texas accent but the lingo he uses makes his sound like a dumb hick.

Some Texas singer Buddy said of Perry: He has the heart of a Democrat and the mind of a Republican !!!!!????? That must make him some sort of a political mongrel. He started out as a Democrat and converted to Republicanism. But obviously he still retains much of the ingrained Democrat mentality.

It seems that the straw pole results were more a repudiation of Perry than an approval of Cain. Cain siphoned off many votes and essentially left Romney trailing Perry slightly. But Michelle Bachmann finishing dead last is quite a mystery. I think basically this illustrates that the straw polls are essentially worthless and misleading regional attitudes of very small groups of Republicans. The straw poll was estimated at 2,900 to 3,500 GOP.

Perry's thorny dilemma is that he apparently wants to appeal to a broad spectrum to capture both the liberal and conservative votes. This doesn't work in Uber-Conservative straw polls and debates for the Republican nomination. The straw polls are not National elections where Perry can get liberal, Latino, Independent and Conservative votes from the whole spectrum of all voters all over the nation.

As Bill Buckley said: "I vote for the Conservative who can get elected".

Interestingly it is looking more like Obama may not run for a second term.

Twoller:

From lots of places but generally three areas:

#1. My own deductions and observations. Obama is apparently on a path of self destruction politically. Practically everything he says now offends everyone. Even his own blacks are now down on him. The Jews. The left. The youth.

#2. Numerous pundits all over the Internet. Dick Morris included.
