Someone is Texas is Shooting at the Illegal Border Crossers

An undocumented immigrant was shot in the back by unidentified assailants as he was walking through a canyon area west of Rio Rico last Friday, officials said.

Jose Enedion Acosta-Amaniego, 28, from Culiacan, Sinaloa suffered a non-life threatening wound from a shotgun round and was treated at Carondolet Holy Cross Hospital in Nogales, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Raoul Rodriguez said Acosta-Amaniego told deputies that he was walking with ten other undocumented immigrants in a canyon west of Exit 22 on Interstate 19 when at around 8 p.m. Friday "they were accosted by an unknown number of assailants who started shooting at the group.”Acosta-Amaniego told deputies that he heard shots but did not know which direction they were coming from. He started to run and felt something “hit him” on his lower back, he said.He made his way to the interstate and reported the attack to the Border Patrol.

A similar attack occurred on June 11 when five illegal border-crossers were ambushed by two camouflage-clad gunmen near the dead end of Peck Canyon Drive in Rio Rico. One of the men, Manuel Esquer Gomez, 45, was shot in the arm as the group fled.

This is very weird. First of all the attacks are on groups of illegals. There should be a lot of witnesses, but these reports say nothing about the description given of the assailants. Why groups? And also, it seems to me that groups of illegals are usually accompanied by somebody who is running them. Only when their coyote is paid off and maybe assurances of further payoffs are made do they split up to go work -- also usually provided by the coyote. Sounds like maybe the turf wars down south are starting to show up with the "other" stuff they are moving north: people.

But the papers are posing this like it was vigilantes. That was my first impression. But vigilantes are not likely to be picking on more than two or three illegals at a time, more likely just one.
