On the one hand, $11.00 some odd dollars an hour ain't shit.

On the other, is there really a machine that can pick strawberries, differentiating between ripe and almost ripe?

The factory farms that would be using robotics are already having the cheap labor immigrants and illegals pick them all "almost ripe" anyway.
With laser and other sensors, I would guess that the sugar content or something could be determined by a scan. I've got one of those moisture meters for checking firewood moisture content, and a laser thermometer, and I'm just a lowly pissant in this world.

They get that in addition to subsidized housing, medical, food stamps, subsidized transportation, childcare, education, legal services and so many other perks that when I counted them all and added them up last year it amounted to over $25 an hour.

Yes they already have machines that can pick fruit. A few years back the blackberry (not sure if it was blackberries, or blueberries but it was a berry of some sort) growers couldn't find workers so they were force to mechanize and found it cost them less than the workers and there were other factors that improved like sanitation.
