I agree that the immigration system is "broken" only because immigration law is not enforced.

The notion of "Aztlan" as exhibited by brown racists in America is a notion derived in America, as is Lulac, Mecha, National Council of La Raza, and all the rest. The people involved with all that stuff put on their "Mexican" identity every morning the same way they put on their clothes, a pretension to deny their American identity.

I can't be sure, because it has been hazy to me, but I think the notion of "Aztlan" as being the seven southwestern states came out of Corky Gonzalez' "Crusade for Justice" bunch in Denver, Colorado during the early 1960's and the other groups quickly snapped it up.

Corky Gonzalez couldn't construct a single sentence in Mexican Spanish, but somehow got his hands on some translated copies of works such as "The Cosmic Race" by Jose Vaconcelos - an ultimately racist essay which was both envious and critical of the United States. Gonzalez was heavily influenced by that sort of thing, but his interpretations were derived from an American born perspective: it's not Mexican and neither was Gonzalez.

Multigenerational people with brown skins and Spanish last names aren't "Mexican" any more than are people with white skins and Irish last names who pretend to be Irish maybe once or twice a year when the Renaissance Faire or St Patrick's Day rolls around.
