Default Freshman Rep. Mo Brooks Co-Sponsors 14 Immigration-Reduction Bills

Freshman Rep. Mo Brooks Co-Sponsors 14 Immigration-Reduction Bills

Freshman Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) added his name to 14 different bills on Thursday that would reduce overall immigration levels and work to end illegal immigration. Rep. Brooks was identified as a "True Reform" Candidate during last year's mid-term elections, agreeing in the affirmative to all 12 questions on NumbersUSA's Immigration-Reduction survey.
During the last Congressional recess, Rep. Brooks made some strong statements regarding illegal immigration during a town hall meeting. He also expressed strong support for a recently passed bill in Alabama that requires all businesses to use E-Verify and allows police officers to inquire about an individual's immigration status if they have reasonable suspicion that the individual is in the country illegally.

Yesterday, Rep. Brooks became a co-sponsor of:
• H.R.152 - a bill introduced by Rep. Ted Poe's to improve border security
• H.R.310 - a bill introduced by Rep. Sure Myrick that would prohibit federal funding to institutions of higher learning that provide in-state tuition to illegal aliens
• H.R.691 - a bill introduced by Rep. Phil Gingrey that would prevent mortgages from going to illegal aliens
• H.R.692 - a bill introduced by Rep. Phil Gingrey that would end Chain Migration
• H.R.693 - a bill introduced by Rep. Phil Gingrey that would require all businesses to use E-Verify within 60 days
• H.R.800 - a bill introduced by Rep. John Carter that would require all businesses to use E-Verify within 2 years
• H.R.1091, introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter that would require DHS to construct 350 additional miles of border fencing
• H.R.1134 - a bill introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter that would prohibit federal funds being sent to sanctuary cities
• H.R.1196 - a compilation bill introduced by Rep. Gary Miller, the LEAVE Act, that would end birthright citizenship, require nationwide use of E-Verify, improve interior enforcement, and discontinue rewards to illegal aliens
• H.R.1459 - a bill introduced by Rep. Sue Myrick, the Scott Gardner Act, that would increase penalties for illegal aliens caught with a DWI
• H.R.1698 - a bill introduced by Rep. Sue Myrick that would increase fines for employers that hire illegal aliens
• H.R.1764 - a bill introduced by Rep. Charles Boustany that would end sanctuary cities
• H.R. 2000 - a bill introduced by Rep. Heath Shuler, the SAVE Act, that would require all employers to use E-Verify and strengthen interior and border enforcement
• H.R.2164 - a bill introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith, the Legal Workforce Act, that would require all employers to use E-Verify
Rep. Brooks has co-sponsored at least one bill that fall under four categories of our 5 Great Solutions

And then on the attack are the anti-American orgs

Lawsuit Seeks to Halt AL Immigration Law, Speaker Hubbard, Rep. Hammon React
The Southern Poverty Law Center and a coalition of civil rights groups filed a class action lawsuit challenging Alabama’s anti-illegal immigrant law, HB 56, that passed last month.

The coalition filing the lawsuit includes the Southern Poverty Law Center, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Alabama, the National Immigration Law Center, the Asian Law Caucus, and the Asian American Justice Center.

The lawsuit charges that HB 56 is unconstitutional in that it unlawfully interferes with federal power and authority over immigration matters, in violation of the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution; subjects Alabamians―including countless U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents―to unlawful search and seizure, in violation of the Fourth Amendment; unlawfully deters immigrant families from enrolling their children in public schools; unconstitutionally bars many lawfully present immigrants from attending public colleges or universities in Alabama; and drastically restricts the right to enter into contracts.

“We have filed this lawsuit today because Alabama’s immigration law is blatantly unconstitutional,” said Mary Bauer, legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center. “This law revisits the state’s painful racial past and tramples the rights of all Alabama residents. It should never become the law of the land.”

One of the bill’s sponsors Micky Hammon responds to the lawsuit saying, “It is no surprise that liberal groups working to shield those who live here illegally are trying to block implementation of our state immigration statute. When crafting the bill, we carefully considered existing law, case precedents and statutes and provisions already approved in other states. I am confident that the Alabama Legislature did its due diligence and approved a law that clearly passes Constitutional muster. It is important to note that our law seeks to protect immigrants who reside here legally while affecting only those who break our laws with their simple presence. We cannot turn a blind eye toward those who thumb their noses at our borders and our laws. Alabama’s no-nonsense illegal immigration law is a model for the rest of the nation to follow as we seek to reclaim much-needed jobs and firmly secure our state borders.”

Speaker Mike Hubbard added, “I’m not sure what part of the word ‘illegal’ some people don’t understand. In Alabama, we believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all citizens. It isn’t fair to the generations of immigrants who have come to this country legally for us to look the other way while others break the law and cheat the system. We promised the people of Alabama we would take action to combat illegal immigration in this state, and that’s what this law does. If the federal government won’t enforce its own laws and protect Alabama, we must protect ourselves.”

For now, the law will go into effect September first.
