Default Leland Yee Wants Election Day Registrations In Calif

Just what California needs. last minute registrations on election day. they cannot keep out the fraud now, so this is just going to increase it.

Quote:
SAN MATEO — A Bay Area lawmaker wants to change the rules so that state residents can cast an election ballot even if they haven't registered to vote ahead of time.

State Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, soon plans to propose a new piece of legislation that would allow would-be voters to register at a polling place on the day of an election. They would still have to be eligible to vote, they just wouldn't have to get their registration card into to the registrar's office 15 days before the election.

I work at the polls and it is already too much of a problem to have people coming in who are not registered or not in the right precinct or something. They already have something called a "provisional ballot", which you can submit if there is some problem with your registration.

Anyone concerned about making sure people are registered, need to reach them any time before an election. It is not up to the election process to constantly babysit unregistered voters.

And, of course, one way to streamline the process would be to remove the primaries and the requirement of registering with a political party, which is a threat to the constitutional rights of citizens to freely assemble.

Anyone who has ever worked at the polls knows how out to lunch Mr Lee is. Poll workers are there to check to see if a person 'has already' registered and take his/her vote. Any poll worker can tell you what a headache it would be to try to baby sit those who are either too lazy to register or too ignorant register. I wonder if some of these elected officials will want to have people driven to the polls so they will not get lost, forget where the polls are etc..........
