there has been all sorts of message board activity related to UN observers in this election process, so as is our usual program, we sought out to get some facts on this matter.

Hello Ms Jarboe,



We have been hearing some stories about United Nations representatives
monitoring/observing in Sacramento county during this election. As is
usually the case, there is more hyperbole than facts in regards to this.
Can you tell us if there are any UN related groups that are actually
scheduled to be monitors in Sac county, and if there are, can you tell
us where they plan on observing this election.

Thank you for contacting me about this. You are correct that the facts
seem to have gotten distorted on this topic. The UN occasionally sends
people to view local election activities to learn about how other
countries administer elections. The two people observing California
elections have already visited Sacramento and may be back in Sacramento
on election day but at this time that is tentative. I found these
visitors to be polite and courteous, interested only in comparing their
election processes to our processes.
