Default Arutz Sheva: Obama Punished Israel by Diverting Anti-Iran Bunker Bombs

Obama Punished Israel by Diverting Anti-Iran Bunker Bombs

by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United States this week will include a demand that U.S. President Barack Obama release previously-promised bunker-busting bombs, the Times of London reported Sunday.

The bombs could be used in an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which are buried deep underground. The Iranian Fars news agency has quoted Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin that the Bushehr nuclear facility will be online by the summer.

The United States has diverted 387 bombs to an island in the Indian Ocean following the latest diplomatic clash between Israel and the United States over the proposed Ramat Shlomo hosing project in Jerusalem, according to several news sources.

President Obama's "punishment" for Israel’s continuing to plan building projects indicates he intends to go full-speed ahead with his and his advisors’ strategy that solving the decades-old Arab-Israeli struggle is the key to stability in the entire Middle East. So far, the only concessions he demands are from Israel.

According to the thinking of the American government, a new Arab state within Israel’s current borders would spark the Arab world’s recognition of Israel as well as a united American-Arab front against a nuclear Iran and Taliban-Al-Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

A different theory for the diversion of the bombs is that President Obama is holding on to the option that the United States, and not Israel, would attack Iran if it obtains nuclear capability. Scotland’s Sunday Herald last week quoted Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London as saying, “They [the United States] are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran. U.S. bombers are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours.”
What insanity is this? Israel wants to take care of the problem itself and no doubt wants to make as clean a job of it as possible. But if the quote there is true, the US wants to make a huge mess out of everything. Where is that going to leave Israel? More of the Obamination's sick anti-semitic obsession with Israel.

Towller, I do believe we (the US) should be careful of what we do in the Middle East. I have never wanted us to be in anything there. That is a hot bed of hot heads and that includes EVERYONE there. There are many thoughts on this that I will not post on any forum.

I have to disagree that it is "everyone". The Iraelis are the innocent parties here and always have been. The scary thing here is the rumor that the US is willing to go ballistic on this. Part of the whole argument for US involvement in the affairs of Israel is that we are supposed to provide some balance to the situation, especially under the current president.

Twice now, Israel managed to gently castrate its neighbor's fledgling nuclear weapons programs. Once at Syria recently,

the other time at Iraq under Saddam Hussein,

Osirak was attacked once by the Iranians before the Iran/Iraq war and later Israel completed the job.

Iranian and Israeli attacks

Although most agreed that Iraq was years away from being able to build a nuclear weapon, the Iranians and the Israelis felt any raid must occur well before nuclear fuel was loaded to prevent radioactive contamination. Further, Israel's Menachem Begin feared that Israel's next elected government would not act until a nuclear weapon was created.

Iran attacked and damaged the site on September 30, 1980 with two F-4 Phantoms, shortly after the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War. This was the first attack on a nuclear reactor and only the third on a nuclear facility in history of the world. It was also the first instance of a pre-emptive attack on a nuclear reactor to forestall the development of a nuclear weapon, though it did not achieve its objective as France repaired the reactor after the Iranian attack.

In Israel, intelligence agencies authorized an air strike based on the fear that Iraq would use the nuclear fuel to produce weapons. This took place on June 7, 1981, in what was known as Operation Opera. The Israeli Air Force launched a strike with eight F-16 multi-role fighters and six F-15s for escorts, which flew from Etzion Airbase.

Shortly after that, the northern Sinai base was vacated and returned to Egypt in accordance with the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. At the time, Etzion was Israel's southernmost airbase - the closest it had to Iraq. The strike force flew 680 miles (1,100 km) across Jordan, Saudi Arabia and into Iraq to bomb the target. Arriving at around 1730, the strike force quickly destroyed the reactor site and returned safely to Israel. Ten Iraqi soldiers and one French researcher were killed in the attack.[13] It was supposed that the strike force evaded detection by flying close together so that instead of appearing as a squadron of small fighters on radar, they appeared as a single large jet, and not much attention was given to them.

One of the Israeli pilots on the mission was Ilan Ramon, who would later become Israel's first astronaut and died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster on February 1, 2003.
"Further, Israel's Menachem Begin feared that Israel's next elected government would not act until a nuclear weapon was created."

Of course that is Israel's situation now. Taking out Iran's nuclear weapons program wouldn't be anything as easy as Iraq's or Syria's, it certainly wouldn't take anything like the destruction of Iran and U.S. bombers against 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours.

If Iran's nuclear weapons program had been as easy to target as Iraq's and Syria's, they would have done it a long time ago and everyone would have been secretely relieved to see them do it. They would have publicly incited the usual pack of lies against Israel, but nothing Israel does pleases enough people, it seems.

May I ask, Just why are we "supposed" to do anything, anywhere for anyone? It is my opinion that we are 'supposed' to protect the US and its (legal) citizens.

Right. The first job of the US as a state is protecting the United States and its citizens. And that most certainly is 'citizens', not 'permanent resident aliens', not legal immigrants and certainly not illegal immigrants. And our borders. Yes, I agree. And certainly we shouldn't be picking on or maliciously meddling in the affairs of tiny little countries just trying to defend themselves.

ozbama is a muslim. He always was a muslim and has written in his books that he would stand with the muslims. In a conflict between Israel, our ally, he would stand with our common ENEMY because our ENEMY is his friend.
