MSNBC’s Ed Schultz: “Republicans Should Also Show the Same Kind of Character that Anthony Weiner Did Today”
MSNBC’s Ed Schultz who called for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign after evidence surface that he had been sending lewd pictures of himself to several women via the internet became his chief apologist last night after Weiner resigned. Schultz: Weiner gave a voice to millions of Americans who didn’t have health care, sick 9/11 first repsonders. He was a fighter for them big time. Millions of unemployed Americans who need help and still do. Millions who need food stamps. The list goes on and on. He was a fighter and he’ll be missed. Washington is in dire need of politicians who care about others and not just themselves. And his voice will be hard to replace. Democrats need to hammer John Boehner and Mitch McConnell every time they lie about tax cuts creating jobs. Weiner was great at that. Democrats have to stand up and fight against the seven Republican candidates who were on stage Monday night. Republicans should also show the same kind of character that Anthony Weiner did today. A good start would be Senator David Vitter. The Louisiana Senator should step down immediately for having illegal sexual relations with prostitutes. Washington sex scandals go back for centuries. The difference with Congressman Weiner is that he got caught and he lied about it repeatedly.
Vitter’s actions were indeed reprehensible and he doesn’t deserve to stay in office if we are going to hold all politicians to the same moral standard.
But if Vitter should resign for what he did then why isn’t Schultz calling fro Barney Frank to do the same? Frank admitted several years ago to having hired a male prostitute who then proceeded to run a call-boy ring without Frank’s knowledge. At least this is what he said.
Schultz must have forgotten about former Rep. Chris Lee who resigned after flirting with women on the internet by posting a shirtless photo of himself on Craigslist. Or what about former Florida Congressman Mark Foley who also resigned after sending sexually explicit internet messages to at least one underage male former page.
The rest of the segment turned into nothing short of a Anthony Weiner love fest as Schultz and his guests did all they could to convince viewers that Weiner is a man of character and compassion and that he should just take some time off and run for office again in 5-10 years. By then they hope voters will have forgotten what a liar he really is.
