Immigration Can Create Jobs
The jobs market received a small boost this morning with news that the economy added 117,000 jobs in the month of July. But, as I noted in my blog on Wednesday, the job creation falls short of the 125,000 foreign workers that received new work permits last month.
Congress heads home this weekend for a month-long recess that runs through Labor Day, and your Members of Congress will likely use the time to meet with their constituents. As we've said in the past, there is no action you can take that's more important than meeting with your Reps in person.
Throughout August, our LEAP (Local Education and Appearing Personally) Team will be sending out alerts when we hear of Town Hall meetings or other opportunities to meet with your Reps in your area.
Congress has already stated that its primary focus when it returns in the fall will be jobs creation. The best way Congress can free up jobs for 22 million Americans who can't find a full-time job would be to reduce overall immigration levels and pass Rep. Lamar Smith's national E-Verify bill (H.R. 2164) that would ensure that future jobs go to legal workers.
If you hear about a Town Hall meeting in your area, please contact our LEAP coordinator Andrew Good at stateaction2011@numbersusa.com. Andrew will make sure he gets an alert out to other NumbersUSA activists in your area while also preparing handouts and talking points.
Don't want to wait for a Town Hall meeting to meet with your Rep? Many Reps will set up face-to-face meetings with groups of constituents. If you're interested in joining a group of other activists to meet with your Rep, contact Andrew and he'll help coordinate the meeting.
Thanks,

Our Members Report on Jobs Americans WILL Do

SPECIAL REPORT: Jobs Americans Will Do
For years, open-borders proponents have stated that foreign workers are necessary because they work jobs that Americans simply won't do. Last spring we asked our members if they felt this statement was true and if they knew any Americans who worked in these ‘undesired’ fields, such as fast-food, hotel housekeeping, roofing, and janitorial work. The number of responses we received was overwhelming. Here are a few of the responses, reprinted with permission and edited for content.

Federal Court Reverses Ruling and Upholds Hazleton's E-Verify Law
Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 12:55 PM EDT - posted on NumbersUSA
A federal appellate court reversed its original ruling that found Hazleton's local ordinance requiring businesses to use E-Verify was unconstitutional. The court was instructed by the Supreme Court to revisit its ruling after upholding Arizona's statewide law earlier this year.
Hazleton's Illegal Immigration Relief Act was passed while current House Member Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) was mayor. Current mayor Joseph Yannuzzi called today's ruling good news for the town.
The Hazleton law was the first immigration enforcement ordinance passed at the local level and sparked a flurry of other localities and states to pass their own enforcement laws in response the federal goverment's lax enforcement. (all of you that were around for the “One a day” campaign where we sent out Joe Turners docs will remember that the goal was to “start little fires” as Joe put it, all throughout the country, and that what we sent out was the beginning. Joe was right, of the three or four cities that took up what we sent them, Hazleton has gone the farthest. I will always thank all the members who sent out those emails to the city councils throughout the USA and Joe Turner for that genius of an idea. It really worked)
