This is an outrage. This type of gunfire exchange involving teenagers of suspect immigration status has no business taking place off the grounds of an LAUSD campus!

Surenos and Nortenos are generally a criminal element of the American born branch of the "brown persuasion" who fight each other.

A Mexican national will be referred to as a "Paisa", and might not fare so well in a jail full of Nortenos, Surenos, Aryan Brotherhood, and the rest of the bigoted, racist, and criminal presence in jail.

Nortenos and Surenos are referred to as and call themselves "Mexican" because of their race. I don't believe many of them would be welcome in Mexico - regardless of what their parents or distant ancestors may have been, they won't fit into Mexico, even if they do speak the language - I believe that generally their "Spanish", if they speak it, is a bastardized version of English and Mexican Spanish, with tons of localized slang tossed in.

Besides, they're social misfits to both American and Mexican society, as well as opportunistically criminal.

Nothing to impress Mexicanidad there.
