we've had a thread on this before, and I'll remind everyone that a huge portion of unlicensed drivers caught up in vehicle siezures are those who had their licenses revoked for child support debts. I volunteered to observe one of these checkpoints a couple years back and I sat for hours watching the process. Not that many were dui, but the ones' that were may have saved a life or three. Lots and lots of siezures for unlicensed drivers, and many had their licenses revoked for previous DUI, speeding, or other violations, but chose to drive without it.

I hope they keep those check points no matter what they call them. What good does it do to have a law if no one has to follow it?

A huge portion? Like how many? I have to say I don't see the reasoning behind taking somebody's car away from them if they don't make child support payments. Just because you have a car doesn't mean that paying child support is only an economic nuisance. If you lose your car, how do you work to pay child support?

the ones that would talk to me alone were about 1/3. I'd guess that to be pretty close too. One guy that I spoke with says he owes around 100K in child support, and he feels he'll never have it paid. He was making big money when it was decreed, and then the big money stopped for him. He couldn't get it turned off, or turned around soon enough. Now he just pays the minimum to get his license back, and when he can't keep up, the pull it again. He's trapped. There were a lot of illegals too. Loading up plastic bags with their stuff....they're always at the ready to move on when this happens.

Here's something that just chafes me raw on that too. Illegals aren't even in the child support system to the degree this guy and many others are. The illegals' kids are getting supported by the tax payer, and the non custodial parents just move from day labor site to day labor site, or illegal job.

It might not be socially acceptable to say it either, but many of these mothers have no idea who the fathers are. Dad is the current boyfriend. |

No sympathy here. It doesn't matter if you're not drunk, you have to have a license and insurance. It's called the law and everyone has to follow it regardless of skin color.

I don't care if the cars of dead beat dads are impounded or if the cars of illegal immigrants are impounded. Both are breaking the law, and as such deserve no sympathy.
