Is there really any doubt that this was gang related? Nobody else cares enough about states in Mexico to shoot somebody over it. But the press says nothing. Move along, nothing to see here.

Another thought:
Maybe the shooters weren't involved with the argument at all and the argument and fist fight were coincidental to the shooting. Mistaken identity, score to settle, initiation rite, or just plain random murder of a stranger for the "fun" of it.
