I forgot to mention that we couldn't have had a much better spot. The city employees and some citizens are traveling between the two building all day long. Also, just a few feet from where everyone pays their parking tickees, and there were a couple huundred or more of those today.

The second event went ok too. I deployed the flagpole around 7:45 am, but had to park a little fartther away today. I dollied the stuff over, and then assembled it.
The wind was blowing just enough to make the flag fly for us, and it looked pretty smart for us. I watched from afar afterwards, and saw numerous people stop and read it. I did get a few comments, and all were good. One mexican fellow rode his bike past, and then looked at me and said "la migra", and I said Hell yes!. I conducted the prayer as people walked past, and they didn't look at me like I was crazy or anything. Then I read a protest script, and retreated to the sidewalks again. Later, the wind came up pretty strong, and it blew the panels off. I got there just in time to chase the blue cloth with white stars as it blew into traffic. after that, I walked around for another hour, and at 4:15 I observed that the wind got stronger and was stressing and bending the flag pole too much for my comfort. So I took it down about a half hour early today, but again, we had a good run |

I forgot to mention,
After I deployed the flagpole, I walked over to the Capitol. I visited Tim Donnelly, who is now a state legislator. For those who don't know, Tim was very active on the border with the minutemen. He had an admirable work ethic in the immigration law enforcement arena, and used to patrol the border at his expense all the time. I discussed a few ideas I had, and we agreed to stay in touch. |

I know we do still have a few people left with jobs, but it is too bad you don't have even a little help.
Thanks. The display was so neat and orderly, it surprised me. Very professional, you can be proud of your work. |

Today's event at the state capitol went ok,
I hit some thick traffic on the way in which put me about 20 minutes late, but when I got there and started setting up, a news crew approached me and asked if I was with SOS. They asked to film me setting up the flagpole and display, so of course I accomodated them. Towards the end, another guy with a camera showed up and took some shots for a weekly paper. After the flag was raised, I gave an interview with the first one. I'm not sure how much will end up in print, but I covered all the main points and answered all her questions. After they left, I parked the truck so as to avoid any further parking tickees, and walked back to the capitol. The display attracted a lot of people. Some glanced, some read while they walked by, some stopped and read, and some did the double take after walking by and came back. There were zero detractors. several people thanked me for doing it. A few legislators walked by, one being Mark Leno, who glanced, but apparently didn't want to stop. I did the prayer at 12:00 noon, but decided against the protest since the display seemed to be frequented more when I wasn't there. I think this type of memorial event begs for people who don't want confrontation or to be bothered in any way by anyone else. Best to just sit back and reap the rewards from afar. At dusk, I rolled the flag down, and one CHP asked if they were going to watch it all night for us! I then dismantled and loaded up the parts. |
