Basically I-8 runs East West. Usually the method is to post 2 vehicles per mile, 2 persons per vehicle. That's along the DOT right of way. Further South the property is probably private or BLM Federal Bureau of Land Management. It can be looked up on the Arizona BLM maps. The area can be seen on Map Quest. There is a relatively narrow strip of land along the interstate speaking in broad regional term. It apparently extends a few miles South . In and around the Towns of Gila Bend and Casa Grande there is private land and municipal property.

Some action will be on DOT right of way, some on a strip of land just South of Interstate Highway I-8 and some possibly could also occur close to the towns as there have been car chases on the highway and incidents of traffickers in the Towns. There could be possibly three or four scenarios. Cartel scouts/lookouts, ambushers, back packers walking North, mules returning South, pickups laden with stand up illegal aliens, highway chases and potentially sneak invaders in the Towns.

Pima Couny is on the West and Pinal County is on the East. The action is around Gila Bend this time.

Regionally, to the border, practically all of the land is Military - Barry Goldwater bombing range, , Tohono O'odha indian reservation, Federal Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife refuge and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

The Barry Goldwater bombing range is vast extending East and West for miles. The mules cross it regularly. Adjacent to the South and East the Indian reservation is, of course, under jurisdiction of the Indian tribe and tribal police. They are completely overrun. It not only extends to the border but goes across into Mexico. No border fence can be built there as it is out of Federal jurisdiction and it would split the tribe.

Cabeza Priets Wildlife refuge is adjacent to the South of Goldwater bombing range and extends to the border. *( The Department will not allow any motorized vehicles which seriously limits Border Patrol actions. To her credit Secretary Napolitano had severely criticized this limitation ).

Organ Pipe NM is adjacent and West of the Indian reservation and extends to the border.


The Vekol Valler region appears to be rugged, forbidding and desolate. However, the green patches East, to the right of the Google imagery, are irrigated farm fields of crops which should be private land.
