I remember reading something about internet retailers (which specifically mentioned Amazon.com) who are siphoning business from California brick and mortar business from which sales tax is derived but Amazon enjoys a loophole which by which sales tax is not collected on sales to Californians. The article also mentioned that some in Sacramento were concerned about the situation.
So, The California legislature doesn't care about running off what business is left nor the employment opportunity and taxable income those businesses provide so much as trying to milk (tax) a herd of dried up cows. That's like LA city hall chasing DWP employees around while ignoring the blatant sales tax evasion (the City of LA does have an outrageous sales tax rate) ubiquitously practiced by downtown vendors. Unbelievable.
