Memorial For Border Patrol Agents During Mexican Independence Day
Save Our State has been issued a permit to hold a memorial event for US Border Patrol agents at the state capitol during the upcoming Mexican Independence Day event being held on Saturday, September 15th, 2012
Our permit was issued for the traffic circle area, which is right next to the section the mexicans are permitted for about 20 yards away. The memorial event will consist of a US border Patrol flag at half mast, and at the base will be pictures of the agents, the circumstances surrounding their murders, and some related information in regards to border security. The flag will be hoisted at 8:00 am and will remain until 8:00 pm that evening. SOS will staff the event all day. A bugler will play Taps as we remove the flag and then we will dismantle and leave. The mexican independence day event will start setting up in the afternoon, and is expected to be in full swing by 5 or 6 pm. Their event will go on at least until 9:00 pm We aren't expecting any trouble, at least any more than there ever has been. Mostly it has been verbal insults, childish threats, and some small objects being tossed, however unlike the previous times we've been there, we'll actually be permitted, and on park property, so the CHP and City police will be close at hand. We're going to make this a tasteful event, mainly aimed to bring attention to the costs in human terms of flagrant illegal border crossing. All of our activities will be confined to that this time. We are soliciting for volunteers to staff the event during the day, or evening whichever you prefer. SOS has, and will continue to work with other groups and people as associates during our events. Below is a PDF file download of the map of the state capitol so you can see where we will be. |

Hope it turns out great. Keep us posted. I live too far away and with being a bus for two teenage girls, it wouldn't happen for me. I will be in there in spirit.

Here's a report on the event:
Early morning set up. Assembly of the memorial The Capitol at dawn Barricades! Not entirely unusual for large events, but some were blocking access to sidewalks to our location. I moved two of them. |

About here is when things turned on us. Although the access was not terribly good, it was open and people came by and looked at the memorial. After the mexicans started unloading and setting up for the show, the state department of general services came over and began closing the access off to us. Interestingly, they closed off access to the police memorial on the left side, but left open the mexican american war monument on the right. Later we saw why. The mexicans came over for a little photo op at that memorial.
I intercepted the DGS people and told them we had a permitted event here, and access needed to remain open. He somewhat accused me of cutting the zip ties in the barricades, which I never did, and said that CHP told them to seal us off. Later, the CHP permit officer said he would keep one avenue open, but within thirty minutes, that too was sealed, and several CHP stood by it. At this time, Robin Hvidston of California's Crusaders arrived and had to argue to get in. She told them there were two events here today, not just the mexicans. They let her in and closed it off again.
