The Judiciary
I don't believe there is a lot of information concerning the people who show up on the ballot for judicial positions. It's important that these people be scrutinized just as much as legislators are - if goofball laws promulgated by goofball legislators are interpreted by goofball judges...
Take for instance Schwarzenegger's nomination for Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil Sakauye? Coming out of obscurity as an Appellate Judge, I had to dig for information concerning her, and not much was forthcoming. What little I did find seemed to indicate a reasoning, even handed judge, until I came across her statement, a la Sotomayor, that she might look at things through her experiences of being a Filipina, a woman, and I think she thew something about being a mother into it as well. I'm done with the ethnic, racial, and gender stuff. Such as my conclusion concerning the reelection of Carlos Moreno for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. I may have made a mistake in rejecting him, for much of what I read about him seemed very good until I stumbled across his membership in the Hispanic Bar Association. That made my mind up right there. Another whom in past years I would have rubber stamped without investigation is seeking reelection for Presiding Justice of the Court of appeal in District 4, Division 2 - Judith D. McConnell - I gave her the ugly boot not long into my investigation. However I gave Carol D. Codrington, who's birth family are from Belize, the thumbs up for Associate Justice, Court of Appeal, Division 2, because she appears to be even handed and doesn't seem to have that pompous ass air so many of the Judiciary seem to carry around with them. And so on. I believe it would do well to check out the people who aren't so much on the radar as turd slingers like Brown, Whitman, Boxer, and Fiorna and vote accordingly. Same with the school districts (mine is full of self important whiners - where do I start?).

I wanted to post something about all this yesterday but it gets so depressing that I just give up and do not post some of the time. Seems no one is listening most of the time.
The last couple of days I have been watching a lot of TV by everyone, I tell you it is scary. I am not sure what will happen to our country if some of these NEW people are actually elected. The judges are very important but I don't think very many people even consider what they do. If they are already a judge then just check their name. |

The same goes for interpretation of the law - Rose Bird is an excellent example of someone who placed her political view above her legal duties to rule impartially and according to the Constitution. Legal interpretation cuts both ways - we need judiciary who are genuinely dedicated to the concept of equally blind justice on both sides of the scale. We don't need "activist" or corrupt judges of any persuasion.
