The article shows the media slant.

Francisco Javier Riveria-Hidalgo is headlined as a "Wyoming man", in the article he is outed as a 14 times deported resident of Mexico who happens to have control of two single family residences in Wyoming, with a combined total of 335 pounds of pot and over 5 pounds of coke.

While it isn't explicitly mentioned, it may be true that the wife didn't know the true nature of Rivera-Hidalgo's money making activities.
