Overwhelming Support For Arizona Immigration Law Seen In Online Poll
Internet users are showing overwhelming support for Arizona's new immigration law.
A survey, being taken by MSNBC, asks, "Do you support Arizona's tough new law on illegal immigration?" As of Wednesday afternoon, the results leaned nearly 96-percent in favor with just over four-percent answering "no." An NBC/"Wall Street Journal" poll asking the same question last month found 64-percent of respondents favoring the law and 34-percent opposed.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill into law in April that requires law enforcement officers to inquire about a person's citizenship status if they're already being questioned in connection with something else, and if there's reasonable suspicion the person might be in the U.S. illegally.
"The Arizona Republic" newspaper has reported an exodus of immigrants from the state since the law, which doesn't take effect until July 29th, was signed.
