Restaurant Workers Fired for Missing Work to Protest AZ Immigration Law

We decided not to go to work because we don't want SB 1070 to go through," said Maria Laurean, who works at Pei Wei restaurant in Chandler.


Instead of clocking in, dozens of co-workers joined together at the Arizona state Capital.

"It’s nothing against the company, it’s just to show the American people, "who's going to run the restaurants?" Laurean said.

A day later, its seems employees got their supervisor's attention.

"We got fired,” said Pei Wei employee Elizabeth Serefin. “All of us that were at the march."

Serafin and 12 others are now unemployed, including one woman who has worked at the restaurant since it opened ten years ago.
