States Turn to Kobach for Illegal Immigration Laws

PHOENIX - In Arizona's illegal immigration debate, the players are all familiar faces: Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Gov. Jan Brewer and State Senator Russell Pearce who introduced Senate Bill 1070 and the employer sanctions law.
But few may know the brains behind those measures: a Yale educated lawyer from Kansas by the name of Kris Kobach.
Kobach worked in the Bush administration for former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
His specialty: national security and immigration law in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
Now he's the go to guy when it comes to drafting "get tough" laws dealing with illegal immigration.
Not only has he done it here in Arizona, but a dozen states across the country are turning to him for legal advice as they craft measures similar to our SB 1070.
FOX 10's John Hook talked to Kobach about Wednesday's arguments before the Supreme Court over Arizona's employer sanctions law.
Kobach says states have a right to combat illegal immigration if the federal government fails to do so.
