A disingenuous attempt to play both ends against the middle.

The OC register article:

SACRAMENTO – California has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Arizona's tough immigration law, saying it would drive illegal immigrants into other states.

The Arizona law, passed two years ago, has been largely blocked by court order because of legal challenges. Among other things, it makes in a crime to be in the country illegally and to seek work.

The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled an April 25 hearing, and a ruling is expected in June.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has joined 10 other states in asking that the Arizona law be overturned. The other states are New York, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont.

In documents filed Tuesday, Harris said the law exceeds state authority, conflicts with national policy and would drive illegal immigrants into other states.

"There are currently millions of undocumented immigrants living in the United States," the brief states. "The apprehension, detention, and removal of these immigrants necessarily implicates the rights, liberties, and personal freedoms of human beings. Most of these undocumented immigrants are otherwise law-abiding, fully contributing members of society.
