That's a nice sentiment, but a poor reflex.
Border control means controlling the border
both ways. That's right, for real border security we have to police traffic across our borders going either way. We don't want people just wandering in and out of the country any time they feel like it, especially those that have come illegally.
"Self deportation" is another word for what you are talking about. It's a huge national security issue just like illegal entry. Those who mule illegals across the border depend on the ability to exit the country illegally as well as enter it.
