There are so many levels and potential discussions from this story.

Number one, it illustrates the failure of the 1986 amnesty, which promised enforcement after citizenship. Fool me once...

The media focuses on the "cleaner cases", those "undocumented" who are A students and have never been a part of any willful criminality. There is little media focus on the fact that people called "Latino" by the press have the highest drop out rate. When I have pressed "Latino advocates" about this, the answer comes full circle that the ones who fail to become educated are "the undocumented", sometimes with some victimization baiting about "white privilege" or "institutionalized racism".

You hear nothing of the general trend that the second generation tends to do better than the immigration generation, but the third tends to slip back, and there is no probing as to why Los Angeles county in California is the welfare capital of the United States. There is little mention in the press about Latino gangs in southern California, unless it is extremely egregious such as when Latino street gangs affiliated with the prison gang Mexican Mafia attempt to burn and murder blacks out of whole neighborhoods - and that is typically limited to 150 words on page 13.

However, those kids in the story might have Mexican parents as well as having been born in Mexico, but the truth is that they would never fit into Mexico and it's not their personal fault that it is so.

However the so called immigration reform effort plays out, it has to make sure that the injustice of every type and tragedy of every type - the Durovilles, the kids derived of two nations but not belonging to either one, the gangs, bigotry white and brown, the displacements of American citizens of every ancestral origin from entire industries, the disproportional racial favoritism towards groups who are no longer "minorities": the unequal opportunity expressed by "affirmative action" - never comes about again like it has in the wake of the 1986 amnesty.

And that will be accomplished not by fences on the border nor by chasing illegal aliens to and fro but by hounding and incarcerating and confiscating the ill gotten gains of American employers who hire illegal aliens.
