I don't trust the Nazis, the counter protesters or the police as a general rule and I sympathize with your mistrust of the whole situation.

But free speech is the basis of the gathering and the lack of restraint from the participants is the rational reason for the presence of the police. Is it worth it for the principles of free speech? Yes, a small price to pay even if conspiracy motivated the event.

The best protection for our constitutionally mandated freedoms is to use them on a regular basis, especially when others conspire against them by abusing them.
