A p.s. to my post on Special Tasks, by Sudoplatov. He told some stories that give some insight into governmental health care.
Sudoplatov talked about how political prisoners were frequently silenced and disposed of. An inmate would be taken to the prison clinic for a "physical." The "doctor" would go through the motions, take his temperature, blood pressure, push down his tongue with a little wooden stick, and then prescribe an "booster" or a "vitamin" injection that was really a poison. The unwitting prisoner would quietly submit to this injection, and be escorted back to their cell to be found dead the following day and then cremated, quietly and unobtrusively.
In the old USSR, dissidents were routinely put in mental hospitals and sedated or drugged.
