New group from the opposition

Dear friends and colleagues,

I want to inform you of a new non-profit organization in Los Angeles named the Vail Center for Immigrant Rights. We aim to provide representation to low-income and indigent immigrants facing deportation. I would be honored to have your presence at our first annual fundraiser. An invitation is attached. We will gather together in celebration and enjoy great food, beverages, featured speakers and live bosa nova music. A silent auction will begin at 5:30 that evening.

We look forward to your attendance. If you cannot attend, please visit our website for information about how to support the Vail Center . www.vailcenter.org

Kind regards,

Julie R. Sparks

President and Executive Director

Less than a month old, and they're out begging for money. Yeah...this one don't stink

My take is that they are not doing so well in private practice or billable hours with an established firm, and are now turning up palms in hopes of greener pastures ;)

The Law Office of Amira Al-Alami was established to better serve immigrant communities in need. As an immigrant herself, Amira understands the often daunting obstacles that immigrants encounter in attempting to legalize their status in the United States pursuant to our country’s complex immigration laws.

It is for this very reason that Amira decided to open her own law firm so that she could give every client individualized attention. At the Law Office of Amira Al-Alami, communication is an integral part of the practice so that a client is not treated like another file but like a person whose entire life may be affected because of their immigration status. It is Amira’s desire to ensure that every client is treated equally, and that any fears or concerns they may have will be addressed immediately.

Amira Al-Alami received her Bachelor of Science degree in International Economics from Texas Tech University located in Lubbock, Texas in 2000, graduating magna cum laude with highest honors. Thereafter, she received her JD from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2003.
Amira began practicing immigration law in 2004 when she started her own practice, Haddad & Al-Alami, PLLC, in Lubbock, Texas with fellow Tech grad, Racy Haddad Gordon. While practicing in Lubbock, Amira made regular weekly appearances on Telemundo News, Channel 46, speaking about hot topics in immigration law.

Amira then joined the law firm of Frank & Morton, LLP in Los Angeles, California in September 2006 where she provided a broad range of immigration services. In May 2008, Amira began her own immigration practice in Glendale, California where she continues to service the immigrant communities of the United States. Amira has appeared on Telemundo News, Channel 52 and "Al Rojo Vivo" in Los Angeles, California to speak to the Latino communities across our country about immigration law and knowing their rights.

Amira is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association ("AILA"), currently serving as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement co-liaison for the Southern California Chapter of AILA. She is also a member of the Executive Committee for Immigration of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, a Board Member of the Latina Lawyers Bar Association of Southern California, the Arab American Lawyers Association of Southern California, the Hala Salaam Maksoud Foundation for Arab American Leadership, and the State Bar of Texas.

Most recently, Amira has collaborated with the NALEO Educational Fund and Univision 34 in Los Angeles to conduct various Ya es Hora ˇCiudadania! segments on Primera Edicion and Noticias 34.
