1st hearing set on Ga. immigration law challenge
ATLANTA (AP) — A federal judge is holding the first hearing on a legal challenge filed by civil liberties groups against Georgia's law cracking down on illegal immigration. Lawyers for the groups and for the state are expected to appear at the Friday hearing. The court plans to solicit suggestions on how to proceed and discuss scheduling. The civil liberties groups this week filed a request asking Judge Thomas Thrash to block the law from taking effect until the lawsuit they filed last week has been resolved. That lawsuit asked the judge to find the law unconstitutional and to block authorities from enforcing it. Gov. Nathan Deal and several other state officials are named as defendants in the suit. http://www.westport-news.com/news/ar...ge-1418270.php |
