It sounded like a throwback to the 1960s.

"We're trying to incite a kind of intellectual rebellion," said Dylan Rodriguez.

The UC Riverside professor and chairman of ethnic studies sounded Jerry Rubinesque, tossing out phrases like "widespread scholarly rebellion" and "intellectual insurrection."

Rodriguez was one of the main organizers of an ethnic studies conference that ends a three-day schedule today at UCR. The conference drew 1,200 participants from across the country, along with some international attendees.

Sarita See, an American studies and English professor at the University of Michigan was another major organizer, and said the conference is just a beginning.

"We're going to launch a new scholarly association, the Critical Ethnic Studies Association," See said.

Plans are to use papers presented at the conference -- the topics included colonialism, genocide and white supremacy -- to establish a new scholarly journal.

Most ethnic studies programs reflect an affirmative action based tokenism, focused on making sure that each ethnic group is represented, See said. That model is too limiting, she said.

"What I see us doing is creating an alternative space," she said. "How can the university become a more democratic place? That for me is what this is about."

Rodriguez said he hopes this new effort will generate more political discourse.

"The field of ethnic studies comes directly out of the movement for radical change and social justice," Rodriguez said, referring to the Civil Rights Movement.

He wants to see issues like the racial inequality in prison populations addressed more actively.

Much of the conference has been focused on genocide. But the genocide being addressed more often is the social genocide that occurs from a disproportionate amount of power between ethnic groups.

"It's an attempt to construct a language around the subject of racial genocide," Rodriguez said. "The UN has asserted a monopoly on the meaning of the word."

Racial colonialism, land displacement and legal inequality all lead to marginalization and oppression of certain ethnic groups, he said.

Susan Areeckal, a fourth-year student at UCR majoring in international affairs and history, said the conference was a help to her.

"I got to learn more about the South Asian people, how we were colonized," Areeckal said. "I don't have access to the history of my people through the regular curriculum. What I'll take away is knowledge. I'll be more aware."

These people are the refuse of society with a degree. They are so removed from reality as to pose a serious problem to the responsible elements of any country.

Why is it that genocide and slavery perpetrated by blacks in Africa is never addressed?

This is another anti-white crusade. it may be the last one unless it is opposed.
Our universities and college campuses have become madrasas for these malcontents.

I am paying attention to many malcontents that I do believe want to see the unrest such as in the Mideast. I cannot see any other reason for some of the things I am observing lately.

Bring back the banished science of anthropology. End of discussion, end of problem. Not only that, there are decades of research waiting to be rediscovered. It was anthropologists who exposed the bad science that gave us the creed of racial superiority and racism.

Well, more and more our citizens are waking up to what is happening in our schools and universities. If this social engineering isn't stopped the fabric of this country will deteriorate, we're seeing it happening faster and faster lately. It all starts in our schools and has been a project of the far left/socialist/communist/anarchist for over about 50 yrs now. Talk to any young person either in high school or college and chances are you'll be speaking to someone who either hates this country or can hardly read or write. Exactly the type that can and do show up at protests or join groups like ANSWER.

We have got to do something about the indoctrination in our schools. If that isn't addressed there's little chance of this country survival.

Have you got any ideas about what should be done about it? Do you know of anyone who has any ideas about what should be done about it?

What do you think of anthropology? Do you think that universities should advance the teaching of anthropology?

The schools and universities have complete control and cover their asses if anyone comes sniffing around. They'll kick you off campus if they suspect you're investigating or speaking out against the indoctrination or the lies they are teaching. It's a hard nut to crack. I've organized a protest in the past, but the problem is that to be effective it must be done during the week, when most people are working. Another problem is the students themselves will come out and either verbally attack you or physically attack you. Then there's also the myth that these are "noble places of learning" and few acknowledge or understand what is happening. Some don't care because they don't have family in school and wouldn't bother even if they did. It has to hit home or in their pocket book to actually care. They don't correlate the connection between what is happening in society today and the indoctrination in our education system. Many still believe it is the same as when they went to school, it just takes a bit of time on a campus today to realize the difference. But how many people spend time on a campus today who are not already part of this "social justice" revolution/socialist/communist indoctrination? They're all in bed with each other and refuse to let anyone detract them from their goals. It will take a lot of determined people to expose what's happening and crack the hold that the teachers and unions have.
