Salma Hayek admits to illegal immigration

Salma Hayek was an illegal immigrant to the U.S., the actress told the Spanish edition of V Magazine.
"I was an illegal immigrant in the United States. It was for a small period of time, but I still did it," the 44-year-old star said.
Hayek posed for V Magazine Spain's cover, under the headline "Armas de Mujer (A Woman's Weapons)."
In the interview, she talked about the rising discrimination against undocumented workers, and promoted programs that build awareness of violence against women.
The Mexican native moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to study acting, after studying at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, La., as a teenager.
Hayek is now a naturalized U.S. citizen.
