Marana man convicted of human smuggling
PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Marana man has been convicted of smuggling illegal immigrants into Arizona last summer. Federal prosecutors say 49-year-old Darrell Wayne Dempsey will be sentenced April 26 in U.S. District Court in Phoenix. A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy stopped a pickup truck Dempsey was driving on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande on Aug. 24 for a traffic violation. Authorities say Dempsey pulled over to the shoulder of the road but continued driving at a slow rate of speed as about 10 Hispanic men jumped out of the passenger side of the truck and ran into the desert. Deputies later found five more people hidden inside the truck. Authorities say Dempsey told them that he expected to be paid $50 for each illegal immigrant transported. http://www.kgun9.com/Global/story.asp?S=11942228 |

Think the probable cause had to do with seat belt usage? Who had the dubious pleasure of sitting on Dempsey's lap? Quote:
