The Peripheral Canal Returns
We've been expecting this. Governor Brown has teamed up with the Obama's cabinet and some very rich and powerful water barons to try and force-feed the citizenry a new type of peripheral canal to pipe water from the fragile delta ecosystem to hand-rubbing agribusiness and developers in the south.
The announcement, delivered inside the water resources building so the governor could keep opposing forces out of the mix, came this morning while SOS, Restore The Delta, and numerous other interested orgs and citizens patrolled with protest signs. I have some pictures for you here: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal036.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal032.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal031.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal024.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal018.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal014.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal012.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ateseal011.jpg also, it is my opinion that SOS should oppose this canal because it will expand agribusiness who will in turn bring more illegals to the central valley. In addition, it will open up more land to develop low income housing in the south. |
