These are some articles from my local paper where we have had another killing by an illegal alien this past week. We attended the Candle light vigil for Matthew Denice last night.

Deval Patrick says “no.” Even after the horror from Milford, Patrick says “no.” After hearing how a 23-year-old young man named Matthew Denice screamed in anguish as his body was ripped apart beneath a truck; how the victim was still alive when an illegal immigrant driver allegedly backed over him as he fled the police; how the accused killer, Nicolas Guaman, merely shrugged at the police after being arrested. Even after all this, Patrick rejects Secure Communities. He still believes that when Guaman was arrested in 2008 for assault, breaking and entering, and resisting arrest, Massachusetts did the right thing by not handing him over to immigration authorities. By releasing him back onto the streets of Milford, where he could continue to be a threat to his neighbors. Why? What can Massachusetts possibly gain that is worth the future of this recent Framingham State grad killed — “murdered,” according to his stepfather, Mike — allegedly by an illegal immigrant? What possible benefit can come from giving special protection to law-breaking immigrants that is as valuable as this lost American life? Patrick has no answer. So while he vacations in the Berkshires, he sends out his flaks to read a cold, sterile statement denying there’s any problem at all. “The governor’s policy is that serious criminals who are here illegally should be deported,” the statement said. What the statement doesn’t say is that Patrick would refuse to allow Massachusetts to send Guaman’s fingerprints to Immigration and Customs Enforcement the first time they arrested him, or the many times Milford cops arrested, detained or answered calls to his apartment afterwards. As Matt’s stepfather said on my radio show Monday, “If Guaman was deported some time ago, this would never have happened.” “Some time ago.” Perhaps last month. That’s when Patrick was in Milford for a town-hall-style forum. Angry locals confronted him with signs, like “When will you secure OUR community?” They begged him then to end this ridiculous policy, told him of residents killed by illegal immigrants in the recent past. What did Patrick tell them? “We don’t need Secure Communities.” All it does is “give the impression that we are doing something.” I wonder if Patrick would be willing to go back today and tell Matt’s parents that, even after the loss of their son, we still don’t need it. The most disturbing part of this story is that it is so common. A year ago I wrote a column about a 4-year-old Springfield girl raped by an illegal immigrant enjoying sanctuary. The very same weekend Matt Denice died in Milford, a 4-year-old California boy was crushed to death during a hit-and-run by an illegal immigrant with two previous arrests. Matthew Denice died because of politics. Shameless, blatant, special-interest politics. Take away the politics of Beacon Hill Democrats sucking up to a key constituency, and this becomes a non-issue. What could be less political than “enforce the law equally for everyone?” But choosing to ignore the law and block its enforcement? Now that’s all about politics. It also gets people killed. And Patrick reminds us yet again which Massachusetts Democrats find more important. |

Editor's Note: The following is a statement released Monday night by the office of Lewis Evangelidis, Worcester County Sheriff. The Sheriff's Office on Monday took custody of Nicolas Guaman, 34, the driver charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence of liquor, and other offenses in the death of Milford resident Matthew Denice, a motorcyclist who was struck and killed after he was dragged a quarter-mile in the road. Guaman is an Ecuadorian citizen who told Milford police he is here illegally. He was arrested in Milford in February 2008 on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of assault and battery on a public employee, and breaking and entering, according to the Worcester District Attorney's Office. The charges were "continued without a finding for a year" in May 2008. The statement from Evangelidis: Suspect and illegal immigrant Nicolas Guaman is presently being held at the Worcester County House of Correction. "As Worcester County Sheriff, I want to be emphatically clear that if the Secure Communities Act was already in place, a criminal alien such as Nicolas Guaman with a prior arrest record could have been identified by the Department of Homeland Security and ICE giving them the opportunity to deport Mr. Guaman in advance of this horrific crime on Aug. 20." "The Secure Communities Act is a commonsense federal program designed to identify and deport illegal immigrants who have previously been arrested, most importantly it protects the citizens of Worcester County and the Commonwealth from unthinkable tragedies like this." "As Sheriff, I find it implausible to think that Governor Patrick would not reconsider his failed position and lack of leadership on this issue and begin to immediately enact Secure Communities." The Worcester County Sheriff's Department is fully committed to implementing and supporting the Secure Communities Act and will work diligently with federal agencies to identify and deport illegal immigrants who have been previously arrested for a crime. "Moving forward, it is extremely important that we do everything possible to prevent a horrific tragedy like this from happening again." |
Many people who support the immigration enforcement program Secure Communities carried signs, and questioned why Patrick does not want the program in Massachusetts. (VIDEO)

The vigil lasted about an hour. People talked quietly among themselves about Denice, and what brought them to the event. Many in the crowd of more than 1,000 people said they never met the 23-year-old, but had been moved to attend the vigil by the circumstances of his death. The event drew young parents, holding infants, and elderly residents, who brought chairs. More than 150 motorcyclists showed up, too, riding through town in a tribute to a fellow rider. Denice was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle Aug. 20, by a pickup truck driver who police said dragged him a quarter-mile in the road. The man arrested and charged with the crime — Nicolas Guaman — has been charged with motor vehicle homicide and numerous other offenses. Elaine Phillips almost didn't come. For the mother of two boys, 22 and 25, the tragedy had struck too close. "I wasn't going to come because I was so angry," she said. "But I got out of it. I set my anger aside for the family." Judy Johnson, another longtime Milford resident, said she came in support of the family. "As a mother, your child is . . . that is any mother's greatest fear. Getting that phone call." The night included a tribute ride by about 150 motorcyclists, who started on Medway Road, rode past people gathered at Draper Park, then circled around using Bancroft Avenue, the street where police said Denice was dragged, then abandoned, by the pickup truck driver. Michael and Maureen Maloney, Matthew's parents, were standing on the sidewalk on Bancroft Street, several bikers said, when the cyclists rode past for their tribute. "If he had just stopped, none of this would have happened," said motorcyclist Bill DiDonato, 56, referring to the man accused in Denice's death. |
It's simply amazing how far these politicians will take this. They are so beholden to the power and money of the immigration lobby, that they are willing to sacrifice any one of us, any one of our families, and their own political future with us. They have placed their trust and their investment in the future with the open borders lobby.
