California: Gerrymandering and Prop 20 & 27

There are some propositions coming up on redistricting here in California, Proposition 20 and Proposition 27.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that the problem that is at the root of gerrymandering is the collection of party affiliation for purposes of voter registration. Without the government kept lists of party affiliation for registered voters, there could be no gerrymandering!

It is none of the government's business what political party you belong to. In California, you may register "decline to state". But for either the Democrat Party or the Republican Party, if you do that, then you have dropped out of those parties.

This is another reason to stand up for the abolition of recording party membership for purposes of voter registration. There is also the problem of the so-called "two party system" that maintains politics as usual and sustains the fake debate between the Democrats and the Republicans. Without the government records of party membership for voters, there can be no primary elections. The political parties will have to run their own elections and then bring their candidates to the public for public elections. This is the way it should be. Without the primary election system, the "two party system" is dead and so is gerrymandering.

Don't be fooled, gerrymandering could not exist without the government records of voter party affliation. There is no other way to end gerrymandering except to get rid of these records and these records could not exist if you could not record your party membership for voter registration.

Write in "none of the above" for propositions 20 and 27 or check off both "yes" and "no", don't leave them blank or somebody handling the votes may vote for you.
