But for Magnet Schools/Programs, there would be a whole lot more physical victimization of non-African-Americans in L.A. public schools. Why do I leave out the blacks in this equation? Because they have very statistically low representation in LAUSD magnet programs.

The reality of many LAUSD campuses in bad or "iffy" neighborhoods is ...

....

That's kind of odd sounding. Why hasn't there been some kind of grievance filed because latinos are under-represented in these magnet schools?

There may have been, I really don't know. The reality, however, is that magnet schools are, demographically, like good universities in or nearby urban areas (think Pepperdine, Tulane, Emory, NYU, Michigan, etc.) Blacks and Latinos are underrepresented in magnet programs, in relation to their percentage of the population in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Magnet program admission is based on merit and ability... at least it is at this point in history.

My kid went to what they called "Gate" school, which was for above average type scholars, but the "gate" school was right in the heart of barrio. The school itself was one of the worst performing in the area, so they just moved some smarter kids in to bring up the scores. The whole school wasn't for "gate" kids; Just certain classrooms. See how it works?
